At Public Myth we pride ourselves on creating fashion-forward, ecologically friendly pieces. We believe in fair wages, safe working conditions, and ethically sound labor regulations. Our goal is to support the environment while providing amazing garments.
“As a modern, forward-thinking, conscientious activewear line, we invest in ecologically sound practices.”
We think it’s important to know what’s going on in the fashion industry. We’re taking a look at something we’re passionate about – educating people about the difference between fast fashion and slow fashion. Here’s a look at why we encourage the slow fashion movement.
What is Fast Fashion?
Fast Fashion is concentrated on profits often while human rights, the environment, and worker’s rights are lost.
Fast fashion companies outsource their production to countries with very poor economies. This makes it easy for unethical practices to be accepted. They can do this for a fraction of what it would cost to run production anywhere in North America. Poor factory conditions include the inhalation of toxic chemicals, unfair wages and extremely long working hours. Because of this, the quality and longevity of the product often suffer. Many large fashion chains around the world are guilty of this. They push innocent children to the limits, causing them to work up to 80 hours a week instead of being in school.
What is Slow Fashion?
Slow fashion respects labor laws while creating quality products. Slow fashion is ethically made with quality products to create sustainable, long-lasting garments. Workers rights, work environment, and fair wages are also taken into consideration in slow fashion production.
To clarify, when in doubt remember the following:
Invest in GOOD quality products to lengthen the life of garments.
Focus on CLEAN production that doesn’t harm the environment.
Seek companies that offer FAIR conditions and wages for producers.
To us, environmental responsibility is not just a trend. It influences every business decision, from concept to production. All of our fitness garments are designed and manufactured in North America, predominantly in Vancouver BC, Canada. This ensures our products come from a safe working environment with fair treatment and pay for everyone involved. We select sustainable materials and natural fabrics like bamboo. Our passion for the planet and the people who love to explore it comes first. Stand proud while saluting the environment in lifestyle pieces you will want to show off.
We’re committed to actively changing the activewear industry–one Public Myth at a time.
