Who doesn’t love a good road trip?! Here at Public Myth we couldn’t think of a better way to take advantage of the last bit of summer. With Labour Day long weekend coming up, we thought it was the perfect time to put together a list of our road trip essentials. Keep reading to find out what you might be forgetting!
VEHICLE
First up are our vehicle essentials. These are important to have on hand no matter how far you’re driving, but even more essential on long trips.
1.Road Side Emergency Kit
These usually include items such as; jumper cables, tire pressure gauges, tow straps, and safety vests. While there are many variations of these available to buy as a kit, you can always make your own.
2. Spare Tire
Never leave home without a spare tire. You can plan for a lot, but not everything. You never know when you’re going to need to change a tire. While we’re on the topic, you should also make sure you know how to change said tire, just in case.
3. Flashlight
While you could just use the flashlight on your phone, why waste battery power? A real flashlight is also way brighter. Think about it, what would you do if you needed to make a call and have a light on at the same time? If you don’t have an actual flashlight with you, you’re out of luck.
4. First Aid Kit
These are another thing you should always have in your car with you. Whether it’s one you pick up from a drug store or one you’ve made from things you have at home, these are necessary. Hopefully you never have to use it, but you definitely don’t want to be in a situation where you need one and don’t have one.
TECH FOR ROAD TRIP ESSENTIALS
Next up are tech essentials. While your electronic devices such as your laptop or phone shouldn’t be what you’re focused on during your trip, there are still some important pieces of technology you probably want to pack.
1. GPS
This one speaks for itself. While most vehicles come equipped with a GPS, you want to make sure you know how to use it. Before you leave we suggest watching a YouTube video or reading about all the features of your particular model.
2. Chargers
Make sure you can charge any devices that you’re bringing along! While you can stop at a store to pick up new chargers, why waste valuable time? Avoid unnecessary stops by remembering to bring your chargers.
3. Power Bank
A power bank is great to have on hand. Whether you’re bringing them with you on a hike or someone else is hogging the only outlet, you don’t want to run out of battery power when you need it most. There are lots of small, affordable options out there so you can definitely find what you need.
4. A Great Playlist
A great playlist is essential to a great road trip. If you’re not (safely) jamming out to your favourite songs while driving, are you even on a road trip? Luckily there are lots of playlists already made that you can download if making them is not your thing.
5. Camera
Last but not least is a camera. You’re going to want to have photos to remember your trip by, so why not take your camera? Using a camera rather than your phone will take better quality photos and save storage on your phone!
IN-CAR ROAD TRIP ESSENTIALS
Next we have our in-car road trip essentials. These are the things that might seem obvious but are easily overlooked.
1. Coventina Water Bottle
Did you know Public Myth has water bottles?! Our Coventina water bottle is great for hot or cold drinks! Made from stainless steel, it keeps drinks cold for 24 hours and hot for up to 12. A huge plus to these bottles is that they fit in cup holders, making them perfect for your trip.
2. Map
Although you already have your GPS and probably a phone as backup, keeping a printed map in your car doesn’t hurt. A cool idea is to highlight your route and make a souvenir craft with it when you’re back at home.
3. Healthy Snacks
We know finding healthy food in a pinch is not always easy, which is why it’s important to think ahead! It doesn’t take long to cut up fruit and veggies and put them in a cooler. While it’s a little more effort than a drive through, you’ll feel so much better not eating deep fried, processed foods.
4. Cash/Change
While most places take debit/credit cards, it’s a good idea to keep some change and small bills around.
COMFORT
We believe comfort is pretty important for your trip. These are our essentials for making your drive as comfortable as possible.
1. Hat
Hat’s are great. They keep the sun out of your eyes, hair off of your face, and they look good. Our Mesh Back Workout Cap comes in three different colour variations and go perfectly with all of your Public Myth outfits!
2. Reusable Shopping Bag
These come in handy in so many situations! Having a reusable bag around to carry your stuff in is a great way to avoid single use plastic bags. If you visit our Vancouver showroom, you might even be lucky enough to score one of ours!
3. Sunglasses
Nobody likes the sun in their eyes, especially when driving. Investing in a good quality pair is a smart way to keep your eyes in good health and make sure you can actually see where you’re going!
4. Day Pack
Having a day pack is a good option if you’re somebody who likes to hike. These are great for throwing all of your essentials in to such as your keys, wallet, and water bottle so you can have your hands free.
5. Mineral Sunscreen
Why mineral? Mineral sunscreen is much more environmentally friendly that traditional sunscreen. It may cost a little more upfront, but think of all those toxic chemicals you’re avoiding.
